Today, on the 1000th day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the 'Light the Fire' event was held in front of the Motherland Statue to commemorate the 1000-day struggle of the Ukrainian people.
This event, which was lit with 1000 candles, was organized to honor all those who gave their lives for Ukraine and to pray for the unyielding will of the Ukrainian people beyond the 1000-day struggle.
Today marks the 1000th day of the Ukrainian War. It reminds me of the 1129th day of the Korean War. Just like South Korea on June 25, 1950, Ukraine was on the brink of the destruction of its country when Russia invaded on February 24, 2022.
However, many people in Ukraine and around the world overcame the crisis with their unyielding will, dedication, and noble sacrifice, and eventually recovered part of the Ukrainian territory.
However, the war continues even now. Even now, everyone in Kyiv and the entire Ukrainian territory is under Russian missile and UAV attacks every day. In the winter when the cold wave comes, Russia is focusing its attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and civilians.
Ukraine has already been facing the Donbass War since 2014. To this day, support from the West, including Europe and the United States, and the East, including Japan and Korea, continues unwaveringly, but at the same time, international interest in this war is also wavering.
I remember that the Korean War was called the 'Forgotten War' abroad due to human ignorance and forgetfulness-indifference. In order for this case not to be repeated, the world should pay more attention to the Ukrainian War.
